A Story
In Darkest KnightThe shadow slowly climbed up the cold stone wall. He glanced to his left, then right. A armoured guard lay not twenty feet away. A cold arrow protuded from his skull, and the had started to pool around his head. Inch by inch the shadow climbed the rugged stone and made his way to a lofty window. When the shadow reached the window he pulled out an obsidian dagger. He stuck the knife through the window panes and unlatched the lock. He quietly pushed the windows in and stepped upon a shaggy rug.
In center of the large room lay a man upon a magnificent oak bed. The shadow made his way to the great bed and stepped beside the sleeping man. He put his hand over the mans mouth and the dagger to his throat. He said nothing as he cut deeply into the mans throat. The old man tried to scream but the breath seeped out his slit throat.
The shadow held the old man down as he struggled in his throes. Soon the old man lay still and the shadow made his way to a wash basin in the corner. His hands were streaked with crimson and it came off stubbornly. He grabbed a towel and dried his hands. Then he withdrew partchment from his cloak and scrawled a note upon it. He set the note on the body's chest, and closed the eyes. The he placed two coins over the eyes.
He crossed the rug and slipped out the window.
He made one more trip before his night was over.
Early in the morning a young maid went to the old mans chambers. She went in without looking at the bed and changed the water in the basin. She went to grab the bowl, but stopped short. The water was red. She looked up at the mirror and saw the gruesome sight in the bed.
She screamed and fainted.
Her cry was heard throughout the building and quickly servants came running.
They made it to the room and quickly covered the body, but not before two other women fainted.
An elderly spoke to a young squire. "Go tell the prince and high king what has happened."
They had found the prince, and he was in the same condition as his father. Slit throat, note and coins over the eyes.
The whole castle was put on alert and extra soldiers were stationed inside and outside the high kings chambers. Nearly all locked doors and put daggers under pillows.
For a time The Shadow was silent, but plans were already set in motion, and he would continue them when the time was opportune.
